After the extraordinary 2016 election, Eleana Del Rio and Kimberly Clark, Assistant to the Director, began a discussion about creating a platform to share the responses of the gallery’s artists. We strongly believe in the power of art to shape and transform our worldview. Starting December 12th we will begin a series of exhibitions on Artsy, with the working titles, “Where Do We Go From Here?” “Shout from the Mountain Top!” and “Keepin’ the Conversation Alive!".
Many of KDR’s artists create works that speak to our current point in history. Through this series of online exhibitions, we hope to keep these important conversations going in the visual arts community and beyond. These artworks will provide a permanent record of the artists’ thoughts about and experiences in today’s changed world. Whether they are inspired to make work within their regular oeuvre or are compelled to take a step outside of it, we will continue to share. The works included in the debut exhibition span almost twenty years time. The earliest, from 1999—Sandow Birk ‘s “Early Morning of the Great March on Washington (October 14, 1979)”—reflects on how far we have come, but also on the importance of continuing the dialogue.
Upon the acquisition of works in the forthcoming exhibitions, KDR will gift a portion (25% of the gallery’s commission), to the artist’s choice of a non-profit organization in support of the cause at hand.
