Koplin Del Rio is pleased to present a group exhibition of selected work created by the first graduating class of
Laguna College of Art & Design's M.F.A. program and their mentors. The show will feature paintings and works onpaper by sixteen graduates and nineteen accomplished mentors.
In the Fall of 2006 Laguna College of Art & Design launched a Master of Fine Arts in Painting program, emphasizing contemporary realist painting. It is a two-year degree program in the production and theory of representational drawing and painting, which for many important contemporary painters continues to afford the most effective and meaningful style with which to express their creative vision. The graduate program mission embraces the enduring value of pictorial art, and the developments of the technical and conceptual skills necessary to this demanding specialization.
Under the guidance of LCAD faculty "mentors", each student produced a series of thematically related works for their graduate project: This mentoring arrangement forms the program's core, culminating in the completion of a body of individually creative work that is substantial and represents a mature, professional accomplishment. The graduating class includes students Kimberly Anderson, Jessica Arsenian, Daryl Bates, Louisa Benhissen, Kaleeka Bond, Shay Bredimus, Shaun Brock, Josh Darr, Maria Dudley, Melanie Florio, Amanda Harrison, Judy NimtzMyers, Machiko Naganuma, Carolin Peters, Sergio Rebia, and Scott Settle.
The exhibition will include work by "mentors", notable Southern California artists Peter Zokosky,
Jon Swihart, Thomas Stubbs, Betty Shelton, Robin Palanker, John Nava, Barrie Mottishaw, Jeremy Lipking, F. Scott Hess, Kenny Harris, D.J. Hall, Joseph Gerges, Brad Coleman, Wes Christensen, Darlene Campbell, Randall Cabe, John Brosio, Jonathan Burke (Dean of Fine Arts), and Sharon Allicotti (M.F.A. program Chair).
