Collection: Project NW: Eirik Johnson: Leviathan Rising

From his kayak, Seattle photographic artist Eirik Johnson captures the massive hulls of trans-oceanic barges idling in the Duwamish River, exploring oceanic trade, environmental fragility, and the machinery that carries cargo through uncertain waters.

The project also includes luminous, silver-plated daguerreotype photograms of Japanese fishing floats, created in collaboration with artist Daniel Carrillo, and an immersive sound piece in the vestibule composed from underwater field recordings made in the Duwamish.

This exhibition is organized by Ellen Ito, Curator of Collections and Special Projects. The exhibition is part of Project NW, a series devoted to artists of the region.
