Zokosky

Peter Zokosky lives and works in Long Beach, CA. He earned his B.A. from the University of California in Riverside, CA and his M.F.A. from Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, CA. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally with pieces placed in many prominent collections including the Long Beach Museum of Art; The Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art, Roswell, NM; Eli Broad Family Foundation, Santa Monica, CA; Chemical Bank of New York, and the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, Bermuda. Zokosky is also a regular guest instructor for the “Drawing From the Masters” series at The Getty Center, Los Angeles, CA.

Zokosky’s paintings balance the complexities of the human condition. He expresses the absurd and the sublime, the tragic and the heroic, the engaged and the detached, the earthly and ethereal. The oil paintings are contemplative, still, engaging, and a bit disturbing. Mindful of the folly, and propelled by genuine awe, he examines subjects we don’t fully understand. Zokosky’s audience knows that if they don’t quite get it, they got it.

In the artist’s words – “I understand that my paintings can seem quirky. I never set out to make them that way, they are not meant to be strange for the sake of being strange, they just deal with things I find fascinating, things I want to explore. It comes from an internal place, and I want to see those things exist in the outer world.” -Peter Zoksoky
